Nominate CHEJ for a Share of the Working Assets Donation Pool
Several times in the past decade, the Center for Health, Environment and Justice has received a generous distribution from the Working Assets Donation Pool, which is generated when the company’s long distance, cell phone and credit card customers round up their monthly bills to make donations to the fund. The money is allocated among nominated charities according to customers’ votes on a donations ballot.
These funds provided CHEJ with a tremendous boost for our work to safeguard and empower communities fighting to protect health and the environment. If you are a Working Assets customer and would like to nominate the Center for Health, Environment and Justice to receive funding next year,
and provide your name and Working Assets customer number. We will send the required documentation (annual report, audit, proof of nonprofit status) to Working Assets on your behalf. With your permission, we will reference your name in our cover letter, since only customers can nominate groups.

Earth Share
The Center for Health, Environment and Justice is a member of Earth Share, a federation that represents the nation’s most respected local, national and international environmental charities in hundreds of workplace giving campaigns across the country. Earth Share’s payroll contribution program allows donors to direct their contribution to CHEJ, to any combination of Earth Share’s members, or to all of them through one general gift to Earth Share.
During your next workplace fund drive, designate CHEJ to receive all or part of your pledge! We are number 0929 in the Combined Federal Campaign, and are also listed under Earth Share in scores of private workplace and state employee campaigns.
Workplace giving is one of the most cost-effective means of fundraising that exists, maximizing the portion of your charitable investment that goes directly to program support. Most donors who authorize small monthly deductions from their paychecks to be sent to charities report that it’s more affordable and convenient than writing a check for a lump sum.
But the field of workplace giving has been dominated for far too long by the traditional charities belonging to the United Way, rather than alternative federations like Earth Share. If your employer does not currently offer Earth Share, help us level the playing field by gaining environmental charities the seat at the table they deserve!
To find out more about how you and your employer can host an Earth Share campaign, please call Maryll Kleibrink at CHEJ at 703-237-2249 ext. 14. Or, click here to visit Earth Share’s website.

Help Make the Link Between Health and the Environment!
Many walkathons are held across the country each year to raise funds to find cures for a wide variety of diseases. However, we at CHEJ believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! With that in mind, CHEJ held the first Making the Link Walkathon in Washington, DC in April, 2006. The goal of our walk was to raise awareness of the link between our health and the environment and the preventive steps that can be taken to ensure a clean, healthy environment for all of us.
This year, we’d like to help you hold a walk in your community!
Holding a walkathon is a wonderful way to raise awareness about your cause, attract media attention, and raise money to fund your grassroots efforts. Planning a walk is also a great way to keep the members of your group engaged and committed to your cause.
CHEJ will provide a wealth of helpful resources to groups wishing to hold walkathons. Materials available include a Walkathon How-To Guidebook, sample letters to use to solicit sponsorships, sample flyers to advertise your walk, forms for walkathon registrants, and much more! As a thank you for this assistance, groups in the past have donated 25 percent of their walkathon profits to CHEJ.
Want to learn more about holding a walkathon? Please email us to let us know that you’re interested. We’ll send you all the materials you’ll need to get started!
