January 8, 2007

Dear Marialyce,

On November 30th, 2006, the Center for Health, Environment and Justice sent the attached letter to the Disney Company, regarding their use of toxic cleaners in Disney hotels and parks. We requested a response by December 31, 2006 to have a conversation to explore non-toxic alternatives with our organization.

We have yet to receive a response from anyone in the company, so I am reaching out to you to help us identify the correct person to speak with.

CHEJ and our partner organizations are looking to Disney to take the lead in the tourism and entertainment industries on this important health and environmental issue. Schools, hospitals and hotel chains such as Fairmont Hotels and Resorts are already taking great strides to reduce toxins found in traditional cleaning products.

We believe that the increasing attention paid by policy makers, competitors, and consumers to the health impacts of toxic chemicals in industrial cleaning products necessitates adopting safer alternatives for use in public spaces. The multitude of mainstream, cost-competitive, effective and readily available non-toxic alternatives on the market can make this switch among the simplest ways to secure a healthy environment for Disney guests and employees.

Switching to green cleaning products can significantly and positively raise Disney's environmental profile and enhance its reputation.

CHEJ would welcome the opportunity to publicly praise Disney for taking the industry lead on using non-toxic, green cleaners in their facilities. Additionally, we are prepared to work with Disney to help identify effective, cost competitive and safe alternatives to the most toxic cleaning products.

We are very interested in speaking with someone at your company with whom we can further discuss this critical issue. Please let me know by Tuesday, January 16th whom we may connect with, or to set up call.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Lois Marie Gibbs
