CHEJ LOVE CANAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY BOOK STORY SUBMISSION STARTING POINT
2008 marks 30 years since Lois Gibbs first organized her neighbors and community in leading the public, the media and the government to listen and to act when it was revealed that more than 900 families were exposed to dangerous toxins in Love Canal, New York.
30 years later, Lois continues her fight through the Center for Health, Environment & Justice. At CHEJ, we train and mentor the movement to prevent toxic harm from occurring – rather than reacting once the poisonous dangers of landfills, incinerators, and chemicals wherever present are exposed. To commemorate these 30 years of working to build healthy communities by empowering people to prevent harm locally, CHEJ is publishing a book highlighting some of the stories from the movement. And, we’d love to hear what you stories you might have to share.
We are looking for stories about a local community struggle, or about local people leading an effort to bring about positive change in their midst: grassroots stories about real life efforts and struggles to make some situation better in some way.
Until January 30, 2008, CHEJ will be accepting story submissions from members, activists, groups, family, friends, neighbors and more. All story submissions will be under consideration for inclusion in the forthcoming CHEJ 30th Anniversary of Love Canal book (title to be determined at a later date).
If you are interested in learning more about how you or someone you know might submit a story, simply contact us to receive story guidelines and further instructions. Upon contacting us, you will immediately receive story submission guidelines, answers to any questions you might have and more. No compensation will be provided for selected stories. All publicly selected stories will become property of the Center for Health, Environment & Justice.
